Kashmir Cultural Society x Muslim Hands

For over 20 years, Muslim Hands has been supporting vulnerable families in Indian-administered Kashmir through investing in livelihoods, sponsoring orphans and providing food and clean water across the region.

Years of political instability and conflict have taken their toll on the communities of India-administered Kashmir. In August 2019, curfew restrictions and a mass lockdown left families vulnerable, unable to leave their homes amid food shortages. Over the last two years, multiple lockdowns and the impact of the pandemic have led to skyrocketing prices and job losses, devastating impoverished communities.

Indian-administered Kashmir has a total population of around 13 million.

• Approximately 2,000 households have been severely affected by the recent conflict.

• 490 houses have been damaged in one area alone, namely Uri.

• The areas our partner proposes to work in with coordination with the Indian government are: Uri, Tangdar, Poonch, Handwara, Kupwara, Rajouri and Machil.
