Sri Lanka Deployment 2026

Muslim Hands has been working in Sri Lanka since the devastating 2004 tsunami, supporting vulnerable communities through long-term development and emergency relief. Over the years, we’ve built strong local partnerships and deep-rooted programmes that address poverty at its core.

In April 2026, I will be travelling to Sri Lanka to continue this vital work.

What I will be Part Of

During the deployment, I will witness the incredible impact of Muslim Hands projects and get hands-on with initiatives such as:

• Teaching at the School of Excellence and supporting orphans with essential school packs which you will pack and distribute.

• Delivering clean water solutions and promoting hygiene in rural communities lacking safe water access.

• Supporting livelihood work with improving and restoring small business projects that offer long-term income and dignity.

What You’re Fundraising For

Our focus is on sustainable, community-led projects that provide not only immediate aid but long-term solutions to the challenges people face.

Your fundraising will support the following key areas:

Education for Orphans

The School of Excellence in Kalutara provides free, high-quality education to orphans and underprivileged children. Students receive daily meals, healthcare and psychosocial support. Local teachers are employed at the school, strengthening educational infrastructure and improving the lives of hundreds of children.

Donate School Packs (Zakat eligible)

These packs provide everything the orphans need for the school year including notebooks, pens and water bottles.

• £15 - provides a student with a school pack

Clean Water and Sanitation

Many Sri Lankans suffer from waterborne diseases and health issues linked to unsafe water. Muslim Hands constructs deep water wells, tube wells and sanitation facilities in remote areas where clean water is scarce. We also deliver hygiene training and water safety programmes to promote long-term public health.

Donate towards a Filtration Plant

This filtration plant provides clean water to over 1,000 beneficiaries using Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology. RO is a process that removes a large majority of impurities from water, ensuring it is safe and clean for use.

• £8,000 - provides clean water for over 1000+ people

Livelihood

Our livelihood projects equip families with the tools, training and resources needed to start or grow small businesses.

We construct and supply Hope Shops to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them earn a sustainable income. Beneficiaries also receive an initial set of stock to help them get started and build independence.

Donate towards a Hope Shop (Zakat eligible)

Each Hope Shop will be constructed using iron and other durable materials and placed in market areas or locations where trade is active.

• £500 – One Hope Shop
• £2,500 – Five Hope Shops
